Second-Largest Major in Terms of Prize Pool
ESL, the organizer of the upcoming IEM Rio Major, raised the prize pool of the tournament from $1,000,000 to $1,250,000. This means the IEM Rio Major will feature a bigger prize pool than sixteen Major events offered in the previous years. The first Brazilian Major is only surpassed by the historic PGL Stockholm Majo, which featured $2,000,000 after the stoppage of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Distribution of Prize Pool
This change in the prize pool means that each of the 24 squads attending the contest will not go home empty-handed. Now, the eight bottom-placed teams in the first phase (17th to 24th) will receive $10,000 for their placing, money that will be added to what they have earned by the stickers. The additional $80,000 will be distributed among the other placings aside from the champion, who will still win the traditional $500,000.
Second Event with Live Audience in All Stages
Recently, the organizer of the Major in Rio has confirmed that the first two stages of the event, Challengers and Legends, will also feature fans. Thus, in addition to having a live audience on the Champions Stage, the Brazilian tournament is expanded to welcome over 100,000 spectators over twelve action-packed days, something that only happened at the Berlin Major 2019.
More so, the stage of the Jeunesse Arena will have a 360-degree orientation in the center of the arena, something that will allow more fans to enter the final phase, from which the tickets sold out in just a few minutes.
