Wesley Lowery’s Biography
Wesley Lowery was born in Woodbridge Township, New Jersey on October 20, 1967. Wesley attended Rutgers University where he earned his B.A. in philosophy in 1989. He then went on to receive an M.Phil from Cambridge University in 1992 and a J.D. from Yale Law School in 1995.
After completing law school, Lowery clerked for Judge J. Michael Luttig of the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina and then worked as an associate at the law firm of Kirkland & Ellis before becoming a staff reporter at The Village Voice in 1999. He was promoted to deputy editor in 2003 and became editor-in-chief after the death of voice co-founder Richard Goldstein in 2006.
Lowery has received numerous awards during his career, including a Knight Science Journalism Fellowship from MIT in 2000 and a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2009. In 2010, he won the Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting for his series on racial disparities within the criminal justice system entitled “A Dark America.” He also won two National Headliner Awards for that series and another National Headliner Award for his work on police misconduct after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Wesley Lowery’s Career
Wesley Lowery was born and raised in Woodbridge Township, New Jersey. He attended Rutgers University where he graduated with a degree in political science. After college, Lowery worked as an assistant district attorney for Middlesex County, New Jersey. In 2002, he became the first black prosecutor in the history of the county.
