VOIP is the abbreviation for Voice over IP = speech over the Internet. Vice over IP is also known as IP telephony or Internet telephony. Internet telephony uses an Internet protocol to transmit voice (audio) and video via data packets over a network. H.323, the SIP protocol and SIPS (Session Initiation Protocol over SSL) are known as protocols. Internet telephony has the great advantage that only one network is used for data and voice.
