Madrid: An old woman, believed to be 113 years old and the oldest living person in Spain, has successfully beaten the coronavirus infection. She is living in a retirement home. Here many of the residents have died from this deadly disease. It was reported by the residence on Tuesday.
Her name is Maria Branyas. She was born in the US. She became infected with Corona virus in the month of April 2020. She became sick at the Santa Maria del Tura care home in the eastern city of Olot. Here she lived for the past 20 years. She fought this respiratory illness off in isolation in her room.
A spokeswoman for the residence told that She survived the disease and is doing fine. She also added that Branyas had displayed only mild symptoms.
The spokeswoman said that She is feeling good now. She was tested for corona virus last week and she tested negative. Spokeswoman did not give any further details.
Branyas is a mother of three children. She was isolated in her room for weeks. She had only one employee in full protective gear in to check her. It was reported by Catalan Regional Television TV3. It also broadcasted the image of this centenarian.
Branyas called the staff at the residence as very kind and very attentive.
When an employee asked her for the secret of her long life, Branyas replied that she is just lucky to enjoy good health.
This care home has recorded several virus-related deaths. It is during this pandemic and it is reported by the spokeswoman for the residence.
Ross Moret, daughter of Branyas, told the station that her mother was in shape, wanting to talk, to explain, to reflect. She has become herself again.
Several articles have been published in Spanish media in the recent year about Branyas. She was considered to be the oldest living person In the country.
Branyas was born on march 4th, in the year 1907. She was born in San Fransisco. There her father, who was from Spain worked as a journalist.
Branyas moved to Spain with her family on a boat during the World war I. She also lived through the pandemic of Spanish Flu. It swept the world in the year 1918 to 1919. She also lived through the Spanish civil war that started in the year 1936 and lasted till 1939.
Spain is one of the worst affected countries that corona virus has attacked. It has claimed many victims. It has about 27,000 corona virus victims so far. It is as per the figures given by the Health Ministry, Spain.
The elderly is so especially vulnerable against corona virus. In Spain as well as in other European countries, Corona virus has claimed the lives of many senior citizens.
