Read Time:2 Minute, 30 Second

Spell-checking software should not be relied upon. For the most part, you can put your faith in them. How many times have you had that tiny red squiggle beneath your name to remark, “I can tell you my name is spelt correctly…”? You may not have had that experience if your name is Jim or Gail, but we’ve written stuff internally where “Brian” had the infamous red squiggle and the auto-suggest “Bryan.”Using spell check is an excellent first step, but it shouldn’t be your only method of ensuring that your work is error-free.

Take a break and revisit

It’s easy to acquire tunnel vision while writing and miss out on mistakes like “She made a good cat!” instead of “She made a good catch!” Because you’re so familiar with the material, it’s easy to overlook your mistakes if you proofread and edit while writing.

Even the most critical email, revolutionary white paper or email text for your next email blast can benefit from a vacation from writing. If you’ve been thinking about a cup of coffee, stroll over to the kitchen and get one.

Get a second opinion.

Okay, so this isn’t quite what I meant. Before submitting your work for publication, have a friend, co-worker, Proofreading Services, or your new intern read it. Having someone who isn’t an expert in the subject matter review your work could help you spot mistakes (before it reflects negatively on you or your brand). If no one is available, reading your work aloud is an alternate option because you can hear the mistakes, if any, that you may have missed.

Take it one step at a time.

“Nobody’s perfect” is a popular refrain. “Nobody’s perfect” is a more appropriate phrase, I think. Even seasoned proofreaders occasionally have a bad day. While this may seem like a daunting task at first, it’s relatively simple. You’re more likely to miss anything if you try to account for five faults at once. Focus solely on spelling errors in your work as you read through it. Finally, reread the passage with an eye toward correct grammar. Focus on the formatting this time around.

here’s a good chance that you’ll find that this approach doesn’t add any more time to your entire editing process. Because your brain will not have to analyse all of the errors at once, focusing on one issue at a time can speed up your workflow. Also good option is to take help of Website proofreading services.

Sometimes, less is more.

Writing about something you’re passionate about or just happen to know a lot about is a great way to get your thoughts down on paper.

You shouldn’t “bury the lead” if you want to make your point clear. To avoid any misunderstanding or confusion, utilise simple, plain language that is more than likely available. Using bullet points can help you stay on track because you won’t go into as much detail with them as you would otherwise.
