Born on 3 November 1988 in a lower-middle class family in West Bengal, Khemu’s early life was not easy. He lost his father at an early age and had to fend for himself. Despite this difficult upbringing, Khemu developed a love for cricket at a young age.
Kunal made his first-class debut for Services in the 2008/09 season. That same year, he represented India A in the triangular series against Sri Lanka A and Australia A.
