Legendary footballer Subimal (Chuni) Goswami, who captained India to Asian Games gold in 1962, died on Thursday in Kolkata.

The footballer extraordinaire was 82 as he breathed his last inside a city elderly care, where he was accepted on Thursday morning after complaining of uneasiness.

One among the best footballers to possess ever performed for that country, Goswami’s name grew to become symbolic of celebrated club Mohun Bagan, where he performed throughout his football career without altering allegiance.

He performed an excellent role in seeing India prosper in prominent worldwide occasions like Asian Cup and Merdeka Cup. Goswami would be a complete sportsperson and excelled in cricket too.

Under his captaincy Bengal arrived at the Ranji Trophy final in 1971-72 season before losing to Bombay in Brabourne Stadium.

His family people stated they won’t be able to consider his body to Mohun Bagan Club because of Covid-related limitations.
