Guwahati: Assam government has allowed the opening of all IMFL and country “off” shops (wine shops) located in green zones with “immediate effect”.
The decision came a day after the Union ministry of home affairs announced a two-week extension for the nationwide lockdown beyond May 4, on Friday.
As per a memo issued by the additional commissioner of excise, on instructions by the state government, on Saturday, wholesale vending of foreign liquor and country spirits across the state have been allowed to operate with immediate effect.
Transportation of liquor consignments is also permitted as per the provisions of Assam Excuse Rules, 2016. However, all concerned licensee shall comply with social distancing norms and other guidelines issued by MHA on Friday.
Of the 33 districts in Assam, 30 districts fall in the green zone classified by the MHA as per risk profiling of districts across the country. Only Dhubri, Marigaon and Goalpara fall under the orange zone. There are no red zones in the state so far.
